Welcome to Green Bean Books
Green Bean Books is a wild and whimsical community-based, independent children's bookstore in the Alberta Arts District of Portland, Oregon. Our little red house is home to new books, used books, red books, blue books, books for babies through the most grownup grownup! As children’s book lovers for life, we have a ball handpicking an ever-growing selection of board books, picture books, beginning readers, beginning chapter books, middle-readers (tween books), young adult, and even adult titles! We stock hot-off-the-press books, but we also adore the classics! Besides books we have a load of loopy and lovely extras like science kits, birthday cards, Nee Doh squishies, miniature secret message capsules, and a whole menagerie of cuddly creatures!
Green Bean Books is deeply committed to coziness and color! Your family is cordially invited to spend some story time together on our little green couch, discover our shadow-box dioramas, explore theme sections like Earth Science, Bedtime, Poetry or Fairy/Princess, and to pick out an extra goodie or two from our troop of vintage coin-operated vending machines. A muskrat finger puppet perhaps? Some fake facial hair for a special occasion? A tiny journal in which to write the world’s most miniscule masterpiece?
Green Bean Books also has a big, sunny, flower-filled garden and a deck on which to while-away an afternoon. We are especially fond of our magical umbrella tree, big enough for a whole family to crawl under and explore!
We’ve got regular weekly story times (in-person and virtual), visiting author readings, pop-up craft stations, and we are always planning for more fun! Stay tuned via our Facebook page, Instagram, and newsletter!

MEET US
Jennifer
loves gardening, books, miniatures and Sebastian the wonder dog! When Jennifer isn't buried in a middle-reader book or sailing through a picture book, she is building dioramas for the bookstore. She's the creator and co-owner of Green Bean Books! 
Suzy
loves persnickety cats, sending postcards, and tricky puzzles. When not working at the bookstore, she enjoys long walks, tending to her bird friendly garden, and creating art with recycled materials. |
Jade
loves needle felting, reading+writing, fairy houses, and bookstores! They're a lifelong bookseller with a particular passion for graphic novels and Middle Grade through New Adult titles. Outside of the store, they try to spend their time on creative projects with their wife and two toddlers. 
Matilda loves reading to herself or others, as well as sewing, drawing, and juggling! She is an artist and a performer who always makes time for a good book. Join us for a story time on the deck with Matilda any Tuesday at 11am! 
Maggie
loves extremely hot yoga, braising meat, suede clogs, and her best bud, Clyde. She's the website whiz and also a co-owner of Green Bean! |
Megan
loves reading, cooking, Scrabble. and being silly. She's a children's book author, a screenwriter, and a mom of one kid and two odd cats. She runs our Youth Advisory Board meetings because there's nothing more she loves to talk about than books. Okay... maybe food. 
Earl
loves writing, reading- of course, bookstore and library hopping, lists, word games, and pajamas. He's a firm believer that more adults should be reading children's books. Don't be shy to ask him for recommendations when he's in. |
